If you’re in Austin, you just have to go to Spider House. An icon to both the city and the coffee community, it’s a beloved gem that starts each day as a coffee shop and ends it as a bar. Both the aesthetic and people are eclectic, and they brew Texas Coffee Traders alongside a wide selection of local and craft beers, wines, and munchies from Quack’s Bakery. If you want to get cray cray, order the Dirty Horchata: a mix of four espresso shots and horchata that tastes like a liquid graham cracker sent from heaven. If tequila’s more your thing, be sure to stop in on for $5 Mexican Martinis all day on Wednesday or check out Happy Hour everyday from 5-8pm.
On any given day (or night), you’ll find a wide range of people from students to tourists, parents to hipsters, and everyone inbetween. A few blocks north of campus, it’s such a staple that even people who don’t like coffee will come meet you for a coffee at Spider House. Outside, there’s a huge patio filled with unique art installations and antiques that gives Spider House it’s charm, along with multiple stages where you’ll find live music every night.
